Learning Outcomes:
- Identify own strengths and develop areas of growth.
- Demonstrate that challenges undertaken developing new skills in the process.
For a long time I have been wanting to pick up an instrument to play. When I was a kid I played the violin but I left it because I stopped liking it. Looking back now I remember how entertaining it really was and I have decided to play an instrument once again. I want to learn how to play the guitar but I figured that learning with an easier instrument would be better, so I bought an ukulele.
Throughout the summer I have learned by myself almost everything needed to master the instrument. I learned almost everything form YouTube and also from practice. I started by learning the basics like the strumming and chords, and later proceeded to things like string picking and learning simple songs like Don't Worry Be Happy. The most challenging thing by far was learning to play the ukulele whilst singing at the same time. It requires a special coordination that I did not have. It took me a long time to master it but by practicing I finally did it.
Learning to play the ukulele was a great idea because it is a great distraction from work and stress and it also works out your mind coordination. For the future, I plan on learning how to play the guitar and I hope that learning how to play the ukulele will help me learn it quickly.

Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate that challenges undertaken developing new skills in the process.
-Show commitment in to and perseverance in CAS experiences.
I have recently taken a lot of interest into solving puzzles that exercise the brain. I specifically became very interested into the Rubik's cube because it exercises memory, hand eye coordination, attentiveness and speed.
I first started with learning how to solve the Rubik's cube. To do this I simply went to YouTube and spent a couple of hours looking at videos and learning algorithms. When I finally learned how to solve the cube I was very happy but also unsatisfied because I solved it in more than 3 minutes. My next goal was to reduce my times. To do this I had to focus on three main strategies: 1) a speed solving method (advanced solving) 2) finger tricks 3) learning algorithms. Learning the method and the finger tricks was quite simple because it is mostly logic, but the hard part was memorising the algorithms because there are so many and so many different cases.
It took me several months of practicing, but I eventually was able to reduce my time to 1 minute, then 50 seconds, and finally around 40 seconds. At this point in order to keep improving my times I will need to learn look ahead, which is a method where you are thinking of the next move you are going to do after you finish the current one.
